HUNGER - EP
“On my second EP, I wanted to make 5 songs that drew from a variety of genres and stylistic influences. The titular track is a bombastic ode to kpop, while second single ‘Things Fall Apart’ fuses electronic and soulful brass elements atop synth basslines. ‘Dinner with the Devil’ is perhaps the most introspective track I’ve written, discussing inner turmoil alongside guitars and retro drum samples. ‘December’ seamlessly blends 80s pop and late 70s soft rock, and album closer ‘Self-love’ fully surrenders to big brass in an exalting salute to self care and individual freedom.”
Things Fall Apart
“Inspired by a range of genres, ‘Things Fall Apart’ is a dazzling pop track that uses soulful brass elements and drum grooves to portray a crumbling relationship. Binoy reminds us that we often hold on the tightest when things fall apart; a widely relatable concept in any kind of relationship or significant life event. The song builds and recedes like a classic romance, staggering to its grandest point before ending in the quiet realisation that sometimes letting go is the best option.”
Favorite Lyric:
“Did all of the weight of our paradise get too heavy for you? It must have my baby ‘cause you brought a gun to a peaceful man’s room.”
Hunger
“‘Hunger’ is the lead single off my next EP. When I was thinking about how I wanted to introduce the project, I knew I wanted to make a song that really lent itself to a striking music video, so I wrote and produced this big, bombastic and really dynamic lead track. In itself, the song is largely about the thrilling addiction to the creative process, and how the hunger we have to create new content and bring our ideas into the world is insatiable once we fall down that rabbit hole.”
Favorite Lyric:
“Too fragile for life, too precious to die.”
Midnight
“‘Midnight’ is, in large part, a product of spontaneous creative whims. I worked on the track’s production over the latter half of 2018, mostly when I needed breaks from other projects. The result is a beautifully mellow slow burner that finds its groove over rich synths and delicate piano riffs. With more mature lyrical content, vocal delivery plays a key role here in creating a smooth and sultry vibe that flows from intro to verse to chorus.”
Favorite Lyric:
“I love it when you look at me that way, the devil in your eyes coming out to play.”
WDTM
“I wrote ‘We Drove to Malibu’ about a day that I drove down to Malibu with two of my best friends. The retro drum machine and synths create a distinct sense of nostalgia that flows into an airy piano-accompanied chorus and euphoric drop, begging for the windows to be rolled down and the sound system to be turned up. Instead of following traditional pop structure, the song shimmies into an outro that is anchored by pulsating kicks and synths – a song befitting of the Pacific Coast Highway drive on any Saturday afternoon.”
Favorite Lyric:
“…and while you watched the sunset, I watched you thinking how lucky I am to call you mine.”
This Time It’s Personal - EP
“I changed the line-up for my debut EP more times than I can count, and each song went through so many drafts and versions before finally coming to fruition. The result is a project that I am overwhelmingly and unequivocally proud of – ‘This Time It’s Personal’. The opening track ‘Whoops’ is a grandiose ode to emotional volatility, evolving from understated to brash to withheld over simmering brass synths. ‘Rain Dance’ pays tribute to my roots by sampling Indian drums and chants, fusing the sounds of the east with 80s style synths reminiscent of Robyn. I even offer my own take on one of my favourite songs of all time – Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees. This is sleek, modern pop in its gloriously unapologetic prime.”
FLOWERS
"'Flowers' is the lead single from my upcoming debut EP. This song, as well as the rest of the project, was heavily influenced by both 80s pop and modern homages to the genre. It is also the first song that features an accompanying music video (directed by Nate Macnabb and Frankie Coto), which you can watch by clicking the cover art."
Favorite Lyric:
"Roses always die one way or another, I can't stand a lover that don't love me back."
DOPE
"I wrote 'Dope' at a time when I was looking to experiment with new sounds and a style of Pop music that I had only ever listened to but never attempted to produce. Heavily inspired by Lorde's 2017 album Melodrama, I wanted to expand the way that I used my voice in order to create an exciting and dynamic listening experience. The final minute of the song shifts towards a more retro sound reminiscent of 90s Jazz and Blues. Why? Just for fun."
Favorite Lyric:
"Now here we are in the kitchen, cooking love and addiction."
